【Kayeri – Folklore Creature from Colombia】
Kayeri is a mythical being from Colombian folklore, said to be born from the goddess of the Cuiba people.
A creature made of fungi, it purifies polluted water.
It’s said the only way to kill it is by shooting its kidney.
My version: the fungus is the core lifeform, parasitizing decomposed river dolphins and crocodile skeletons from the Amazon, merging them through various fungal threads—
Slime mold forms the nerves, mycelium shapes the muscles—turning into a mobile body.
The “kidneys” in this context are actually organs spread across its body, made of mycelium, which break down and filter the filth in dirty water.
It’s simple, really—fungi's core role is decomposition and purification.
Also reminded me of the stories about fungi being a base for neurological systems. What if the first nerves were a hybrid of fungus and animal cells? After all, fungi are among the most widespread organisms on Earth.
Maybe all life evolved from fungus. Sounds legit.
